Two Liverpool students, Callum Dickinson and Glen Lowther, are celebrating after becoming the first in the region to be awarded their Level 2 NVQ qualification as part of a local youth apprenticeship initiative. This scheme is run in partnership between David Wilson Homes North West, North Liverpool Regeneration Company (NLRC) and Liverpool City Council through the City’s Housing Renewal programme.
Joiner, Glen and bricklayer, Callum both successfully secured their qualification after completing a 16 week work experience placement at David Wilson Homes’ St John’s Place development in Kirkdale, where they were tasked with putting their classroom-based learning into practice.
Graham Swann, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes North West, comments: “We are delighted to have assisted Glen and Callum in securing their qualifications. At David Wilson Homes North West we are committed to helping young people in the local community develop their skills and providing them with the experience and knowledge of working in the construction sector.
“Work experience is a vital part of any career, and it’s fantastic that we can provide young people with the skills needed to continue in the building industry helping it to grow over the coming years.
“We have recently employed two further apprectices, Ryan Owens and Neil Fairbrother, who we hope will keep up the good work at our next phase in Kirkdale, Claremont Gardens at St John’s. In the meantime, we wish Glen and Callum the best of luck in their forthcoming careers.”
