Work begins on eagerly awaited primary school

March 27, 2012 Work begins on eagerly awaited primary school

A special turf cutting event has been held to mark the start of building work on the eagerly awaited primary school in Chapelford Village.

The mayor of Warrington, Councillor Mike Biggin, was helped by local schoolchildren and joined by representatives from the council and David Wilson Homes North West as he cut the first turf on site.

The event marks a key phase of the urban village development for the pupils and staff of Sycamore Lane Primary School, who will be relocating to the new school in February 2013.

The school, which is yet to be named, is great news for the village as some of the school’s facilities will also be open to the community. For example the changing rooms will be used by local junior sports teams at the weekend. The school hall will also be available for use by community groups outside of normal school hours.

Councillor Colin Frogatt, executive board member for children and young people’s services, said: “The new school building is the latest part of the jigsaw that contributes towards developing the centre of the urban village and it is great news that we have reached this milestone. The school will be a great asset to the village.”

Andrew Taylor, planning director for David Wilson Homes North West, which has contributed more than £275,000 towards the school’s constuction, added: “Today marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Chapelford Village. We are delighted to be able to facilitate the development of such a significant service, which will sit at the heart of the local community.

“Our funding will enable the park changing and parking facilities to be located within the school grounds, helping to create a service that will be of benefit to residents throughout the whole of Chapelford Village.”
