What a jaffa! Children’s cricket charity receives donation

July 14, 2020 What a jaffa! Children’s cricket charity receives donation
The Lords Taverners OSYP donation 2020

OSYP has donated £1,500 to the local division of the Lord’s Taverners, a national youth cricket and disability sports charity.

With hubs across the region the Lord’s Taverners aims to help disadvantaged and disabled young people through the power of sport, supporting them to overcome barriers and build life skills.

The charity created Wicketz, a free cricket programme for young people aged eight to 19, living in deprived areas. The organisation also supports a range of other charitable programmes including its very own sports kit recycling scheme, in which items of clothing are donated and redistributed to communities across the UK and internationally.

The Lord’s Taverners plans to use the donation to continue developing its “online hubs,” created for disadvantaged and disabled children, their parents and carers to exercise at home despite lockdown.

Paul Robin, the Lord’s Taverners CEO, said: “The North West Community Fund scheme is a shining example of companies supporting local projects.

“It is vital to their success and key in our work to break down barriers and empower disadvantaged and disabled young people to fulfil their potential and build life skills.”

Philippa Stewart, Head of Sales at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “As one of the UK’s leading developers, it is really important that we support charities and local organisations in our surrounding area.

“The Lord’s Taverners is a great example of a charity going the extra mile for those less fortunate in times of crisis. We wish them all the best in the continued development of their online hubs, and hope they continue to leave a positive impact in the lives of the children they work hard to assist.”

Paul continued, “We are extremely grateful to David Wilson Homes for their vital donation in supporting our work across the North West.

“It is so important to continue providing opportunities for participants to keep active and stimulated during this testing time with weekly sessions currently being suspended, and these funds allow us to continue providing these opportunities virtually.

We live to provide all our beneficiaries with a safe haven, and utilise this to give them the tools and skill to become assets to their local communities. The programmes we offer reach wider than the cricket field, they really change young people lives.”
