Warrington based garden centre and upcycling charity, The Walton Lea Partnership, has captured the imagination of award-winning local house builder, David Wilson Homes (DWH) North West, sparking an exciting new collaboration between the two organisations.
As part of its ongoing programme of community and charitable activities, North West Community Fund, DWH North West has donated £750 to fund specialist flooring needed for Walton Lea’s new polytunnel at the charity’s Long Lane Garden Centre – but has pledged to do much more to support the charity going forwards.
So far, designer furniture from some of DWH’s local show homes in Warrington has also been donated to Walton Lea, to be sold at the charity’s walled garden premises located off Chester Road at Higher Walton.
Future plans include commissioning and buying home and garden products at selected sales sites, and promoting the charity’s bicycle recycling service via its website and nearby show homes.
The Walton Lea Project provides supported employment for adults with a range of physical and learning disabilities, offering jobs and work experience at its two sites in Warrington. It aims to deliver an exciting and innovative programme of education and skills training that has the potential to progress learners into further training and education.
Activities include gardening, woodwork, floristry, furniture and bicycle up-cycling. Its aim is to improve the self-esteem and status of adults with learning difficulties by helping them to play a full part in the local community.
Between its two sites, Walton Lea sells a huge variety of home-grown shrubs, flowers, fruit and veg, hanging baskets and window boxes, as well as stylishly up-cycled crafts and furniture for the home and garden.
All the products used are hand-crafted utilising cleverly recycled materials, and plants are nurtured from seed.
