Scheme provides winning support for local sports clubs

Project Support

November 1, 2013 Scheme provides winning support for local sports clubs

Sports clubs across the North West have been benefiting from the North West Community Fund scheme, designed help community organisations with volunteer time or funding.

In a key year for investing in Britain’s sporting legacy, local housebuilder, David Wilson Homes North West’s North West Community Fund initiative has worked with three sports clubs, donating hundreds of pounds to each to help provide for everything from sports kits to maintaining facilities.

For example, Warrington-based Crosfields Amateur Rugby League Football Club (ARLFC), Britain’s largest amateur rugby league club, received £300 in order to help maintain its facilities.

Dominic Caswell, committee member at Crosfields ARLFC, said: “Support, such as the funding we have received from the North West Community Fund scheme, is vital to help clubs like ours survive. We are so grateful to David Wilson Homes North West for the £300, which will make big difference in helping us to maintain our facilities, from making pitch repairs to improving the changing rooms.”

From football to martial arts, the North West Community Fund scheme has helped keep local clubs fitting fit with both volunteer time and funding. Indeed, since it launched in 2010, it has helped 11 sports clubs across the region.

Steve Jackson, North West Community Fund Project Coordinator at David Wilson Homes North West, adds: “Through the North West Community Fund scheme we are committed to supporting and developing the communities in which we build.

“Sports clubs play a vital role, providing a healthy activity for youngsters and a place to come together for the local community. That is why North West Community Fund is delighted have been able to support Crosfields ARLFC and we would encourage any clubs in the North West, who may need a helping hand with pitch repairs or funding to support new equipment for example, to get in touch.”

The North West Community Fund scheme helps community groups with either volunteer time or funding, the only condition is that this support is used for something that will genuinely improve a service, facilities or the environment within the local area.
