RSPB and david wilson homes share tips on wildlife friendly gardens

The RSPB gave a demonstration on how to keep gardens wildlife friendly at David Wilson Homes’ latest development at Cromwell Heights, Longridge.

We will be planting wildlife-friendly shrubs and flowers at developments across the North West in the next six months and providing tips and advice on creating your own wildlife-friendly garden to help give nature a home.

According to the RSPB, gardens stocked with nectar rich plants and shrubs are not only a great way of connecting people with nature, but they are also vital in helping to provide a home for a variety of wildlife

Steve Jackson, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes North West, says:

“Wildlife is fundamentally important to the function of our environment. We consider our wildlife-friendly campaign our duty to ensure that nature has a home in our gardens all year round.

“Growing a wide variety of plants will help attract wildlife. Not only will it give you something to look at but offers year round food and shelter, helping many creatures to complete some or all of their life cycles.”

RSPB nature friendly tips;

• Create a water feature; not only are they therapeutic and great to look at, ponds and other water features provide drinking water, a place to bathe and even a home for a host of wildlife. Attract birds to your garden with supplementary food all year round; a wide range of high quality specially formulated seed mixes, other foods and feeders will provide a tasty treat for our feathered friends. Whilst supplementary food is a great way to encourage birds into the garden, the best features to encourage other creatures to visit include flower-rich lawns, shrub and flower beds.

• Adopt a more relaxed approach to gardening and cut back on the maintenance, encouraging more insects and flowers with your gardening – avoid over management, and using pesticides and herbicides.
