Regeneration work recognised by shadow housing minister

Community Impact

February 24, 2014 Regeneration work recognised by shadow housing minister

The shadow housing minister has visited a David Wilson Homes North West development in Liverpool to witness how local organisations are working together to regenerate the city.

Emma Reynolds MP visited Claremont Gardens at St John’s Place in Kirkdale. Built on the site of the former Easby estate, the new development has transformed the area in recent years.

Thanks to a partnership between Liverpool City Council, Liverpool Mutual Homes, Liverpool Housing Trust and David Wilson Homes North West, the formally deprived estate is now a thriving sustainable community, designed in consultation with local residents to maintain the original character of the area.

The shadow minister was shown around the development by Graham Swann, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes North West, to see first-hand the difference regeneration has made to the local community. Her visit to Claremont Gardens was part of a wider tour of housing regeneration sites in the city organised by Liverpool City Council.

Emma Reynolds MP comments: “It is fantastic to see the work taking place in our towns and cities to regenerate previously disadvantaged areas. I was pleased to see the positive impact re-development has had in Kirkdale and the local jobs it has created.”

As well as providing homes for the community, through its North West Community Fund scheme, David Wilson Homes North West has supported a number of local projects including at St John’s Primary School, Kirkdale’s Amateur Boxing Club and Kirkdale’s Safe & Dry Foundation.

Local employment has also been boosted with three quarters of workers on site recruited from within a 15 mile radius. In addition, a successful apprenticeship initiative, run in partnership with North Liverpool Regeneration Company and Liverpool City Council, has seen six young people achieve qualifications since 2010.

Graham Swann, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes North West, adds: “I would like to thank Emma Reynolds MP for taking the time to visit Claremont Gardens at St John’s Place. It is a great example of how local organisations and the community can work together to really transform an area. At David Wilson Homes North West we aim to build communities in which people aspire to live and are delighted to have achieved that here in Kirkdale.”

Claremont Gardens offers a range of modern, spacious three and four bedroom homes priced from just £124,995. It benefits from excellent transport links being close to local rail and bus services, providing easy access to the city centre, while on the doorstep is Walton Road, with its range of local shops and amenities.
