Community Impact, North West Community Fund
September 12, 2019Local housebuilder David Wilson Homes has donated £1500 towards repairing the community’s greatly treasured St. Michael’s Church hall in Preston.
Craig Haslam from David Wilson Homes and and Ron Rather from St Michaels Church in Preston, DWH have donated money to the church that has been used to refurbish a community hall attached to the main church.
Long-term wear and tear to the roof caused a number of leaks which consequently caused damage to the ceiling and floor. David Wilson Homes North West made it a priority to help the much-loved church.
The donation was made via the leading housebuilder’s ‘North West Community Fund’ initiative. The scheme aims to support community projects and local charities throughout the North West.
Lynton Dudgeon, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes North West said: “We were delighted to be able to support St Michael’s Church with a donation towards the refurbishments.
“It is of paramount importance to us that we leave a lasting legacy wherever we build our homes and we are happy to have been able to help the local people to regain their church as a place to socialise and learn.”
St Michael’s Church is often used by community pre-school groups, Scouts, Guides and local charitable choirs as well as for church services. In a typical week the premises are used by over 400 children and adults drawn from the local area.
Ron Eather, Church Treasurer at St Michael’s Church, said: “I found out about the North West Community Fund through a search for local sources of charitable grants.
“David Wilson Homes is quite active in the Preston area and so I felt it would be worthwhile to send in an appeal as ours was a local community project which met the ethos of the scheme.
“Our church is very grateful to David Wilson Homes North West and all the other charities who have helped us towards our target figure. We are now in a much better position to serve the local community.”
