Planning committee approval

Town Lane

December 5, 2012 Planning committee approval

David Wilson Homes North West is delighted to announce that the mixed use scheme for Town Lane, Kew was approved at Sefton Council’s Planning Committee in Southport on 25th July. The Committee members voted unanimously in favour of approval, in line with officer’s recommendation.

Since 2010, David Wilson Homes have been working in partnership with Sefton Council to deliver a high quality mixed use development for the Town Lane, Kew site. The site has long been allocated for development by Sefton Council, but for a number of reasons has failed to come forward until now. At the outset David Wilson Homes were tasked with three aims: to deliver a site that would be very high quality in terms of design; to consult with local residents and key stakeholders; and to resolve the complex technical challenges facing the site. We consider that, with the help of Councillors, local residents and officers, we have succeeded on every count.

The scheme provides an outstanding design, with the layout and bespoke housetypes achieving the highest quality. With each bespoke dwelling reflecting the character of some of the best elements of Kew and Southport, this is a scheme unlike any in Sefton, at a scale unlike any previous developments in the Borough.

Consultation with the local community has been at the heart of the proposals. With two exhibitions, a website and a host of other consultation events with key stakeholders, local residents have not only commented on the proposals, but have had their comments taken on board.
The proposed extra care scheme offers a wonderful facility for the elderly and those in need of more specialist care in a very attractive environment. The business park extension provides for Southport’s business needs for the next 20 years. Most fundamentally, this site is hugely important to the Council in terms of the delivery of much needed housing, contributing significantly to your 5 year housing supply.

The approval of this scheme represents the culmination of many years work by officers and elected Members, and shows how effective a partnership between the public and private sector can be. David Wilson Homes are proud to be associated with this superb development, which residents of Southport can be assured is of the highest quality.

Once the legal agreement that will accompany the approval has been finalised with both Sefton and Lancashire County Council, the planning consent can be issued and work on remediating the site can commence. First occupations could take place as early as the second half of 2013.
