North West Community Fund steps in to improve roads for community allotment site

August 9, 2016 North West Community Fund steps in to improve roads for community allotment site

Warrington not for profit gardening group, Battery Lane Allotment Association, has seen the condition of its lanes improved, thanks to support from local housebuilder, David Wilson Homes (DWH) North West.

The group, which runs a community allotment scheme in Woolston near Warrington, successfully applied for help through DWH North West’s charitable and community scheme, North West Community Fund. These funds have been used to improve the condition of the association’s lanes and road surfaces, with the housebuilder stepping in to fill potholes which made travelling to and around the site difficult.

Andrew Taylor, North West Community Fund Project Coordinator and Planning Director at DWH North West, comments: “At David Wilson Homes, we are dedicated to building strong communities in areas surrounding our developments. The Battery Lane Allotment Association works hard to offer great space for gardeners of all abilities, including the disabled, so we were only too happy to step in and help improve access to the site for the many local people who use it.”

Shirley Edwards, who helps to run the Battery Lane Allotment Association, said: “We’re really grateful to the DWH North West team for their help in filling in the potholes, which have made accessing the allotments and moving materials around the site somewhat troublesome. This work will provide a tangible benefit for the site users and make the allotments look even better than they already do.”

The housebuilder’s North West Community Fund scheme offers support to community groups in the region through volunteering time or funding.  Applications can be made through its website: www.northwestcommunityfund.co.uk.

DWH North West has recently scooped a prestigious Five Star award by the National Home Builder’s Federation (NHF) for the seventh consecutive year – the only national housebuilder to achieve this accolade.
