North West Community Fund in miniature

Over 60 Year 6 pupils from Horwich Parish C.E. School in Bolton were recently introduced to the busy world of house building, when our Senior Engineer, Julian Digby visited the school to talk about life on a building site.

During the visit, Julian discussed the importance of health and safety, the measures sites operatives take to ensure that they stay safe, such as wearing PPE, and how to identify potential hazards on site.

The pupils were then given to the chance to learn about the different people, department and skills that we need here at David Wilson Homes North West during the house building process, from Land Purchase, Architecture and Engineering all the way through to Construction, Sales and Customer Care.

We then challenged the children to name the types of contractors required to build a house, and then build their own estate in miniature based upon the site boundaries and road layout of our new site in Malpas.

Everyone had a great time and we received fantastic feedback from the children on the project. Comments included: “I enjoyed planning with the buildings”, “Your job is amazing!”, “It was cool, fun and interesting”, “The talk was so interesting, I am thinking of becoming a building engineer when I am older” and “Jobtastic!”

Our Architects had better beware, these children were good!
