Northwich school children celebrate national storytelling week

Community Impact

February 10, 2017 Northwich school children celebrate national storytelling week
Storyteller Sue Allonby with Winnington Park School youngsters, Ronnie, Jack, Ethan, Ruby, Ewan, William, Elijah and David Wilson Homes host, assistant site manager Danny McCarthy enjoy the tale of porridge and the magic syrup tins.

To celebrate National Storytelling Week, David Wilson Homes (DWH) North West hosted a unique story session for Winnington Park Primary School pupils at one of its local show homes.

Children from Year 1 enjoyed an hour of traditional stories told by professional storyteller, Sue Allbony, at the Winnington Village development.

Now in in its 17th year, National Storytelling Week aims to promote the oral tradition of storytelling and creative thinking amongst listeners. Set up by the Society for Storytelling, the initiative is celebrated by all ages and takes place in schools, care homes, museums, hospitals and more throughout the UK.

Designed to be educational, interactive and fun for school children, Sue Allbony’s tales included the traditional stories: ‘Mrs McTaggart and the Porridge Trouble’ and ‘Mohini Tricks the Scary Monster’. Pupils were given props to help bring the stories to life and contributed with great enthusiasm throughout the course of the session.

School teacher at Winnington Park Primary, Jo Flower said: “the stories told by Sue Allonby kept our pupils transfixed and the session was enjoyed by all. We are delighted to have participated in National Story Telling Week with David Wilson Homes as it gave us an opportunity to further enrich our outstanding literacy teaching. We look forward to working with the local team again in the future.”

Andrew Taylor, DWH Planning Director said: “As part of our on-going commitment to giving back to the communities in which we build, we’re very pleased to have taken part in a week which both inspires and entertains children through storytelling.”

Winnington Village offers a collection of one to five bedroom homes as well as a variety of new facilities, from shops to play areas. The Marketing Suite is open Monday 12.30pm – 5.30pm and Tuesday – Sunday 10am – 5.30pm.
