Mencap Liverpool, an independent charity that promotes equality for people with a learning disability has had its facilities transformed, thanks to support from local housebuilder, David Wilson Homes (DWH) North West.
The Lydia Ann Street-based charity successfully applied for funds through DWH North West’s charitable and community scheme, North West Community Fund. These funds have been used to provide Liverpool Mencap with a brand new kitchen facility.
Prior to its transformation, the kitchen was too cramped for those the charity supports to use as a team, had poor storage and wasn’t able to accommodate a dishwasher or large enough sink to adequately wash up the items used by Liverpool Mencap’s staff, volunteers and support members.
DWH North West stepped in and provided an updated kitchen which was able to meet the needs of the charity and its users.
Andrew Taylor, North West Community Fund Project Coordinator and Planning Director at DWH North West, comments: “At David Wilson Homes, we are dedicated to building strong communities in areas surrounding our developments. Liverpool Mencap is a much needed resource which creates opportunities for people with a learning disability. The kitchen was hampering the amazing work that the charity is doing and we hope that their refitted facility will make life easier and more efficient for the wide variety of people who use the space every day.”
Kevin Byrne, Fundraising Manager at Mencap Liverpool, said: “We’re really grateful to DWH’s support and the new kitchen is set to make a big difference to our everyday operations.”
Liverpool Mencap is situated close to DWH North West’s Claremont Gardens development, which comprises of two, three and four bedroom homes with prices starting from £124,995.
