Project Support
February 11, 2026
We donated a collection of children’s toys for a Greater Manchester charity’s Christmas sale to support vulnerable families.
The collection was held at our Warrington office and we dropped off a variety of new and nearly new toys for The Oasis Centre in Gorton, which hosted a sale to ensure an affordable Christmas for local families.
Gorton is ranked as one of the most deprived neighbourhoods in England. As noted by Manchester City Council, Gorton and Abbey Hey has 5,476 households that are deprived in one or more dimensions, making up 65.5% of the ward’s population.
Around Christmas, loan sharks target the area, preying on vulnerable, isolated and marginalised families which can lead to hard choices – clothing children, paying the gas and electricity bills, carrying out household maintenance or buying food. The work carried out by the Oasis Centre is reducing the prominence of loan sharks in the area and therefore helping families to avoid unachievable repayments.
Victoria Armstrong, Founder of The Oasis Centre, said: “David Wilson Homes’ support will help impact hundreds of families facing great deprivation, isolation and hardship this Christmas. We are beyond grateful for the great care and support!”
Many people first approach the charity in crisis, needing food, clothing or urgent help. Its dedicated team responds with care and compassion to meet immediate needs and begin building trust.
The Oasis Centre offers emergency provisions, a free café open five days a week and a charity shop to help families stretch their budget further, as well as a supportive team helping each person to address the root causes of crisis, including debt, housing, benefits, addiction and health challenges.
Our collection of toys bolstered the charity’s stock to sell to local families at a heavily reduced cost, helping them to enjoy the Christmas they deserve with their loved ones.
Claire Jarvis, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “It’s a privilege to partner such a wonderful charity. The Oasis Centre prioritises local people and has nurtured a fantastic support network in Gorton and its surrounding communities.”
