May 3, 2024We gifted £1,000 to St Luke’s Primary School to help with repairs to its damaged outdoor area.
The pupils at St Luke’s Primary School have loved their brand new outdoor play areas
Based in Formby, St Luke’s Primary School has approximately 400 pupils aged between four and 11, along with 60 members of staff. The school’s outdoor learning area for the youngest children had been badly damaged in storms, including a well-established tree being uprooted and the wooden equipment was ruined.
The school faced covering the costs of the repairs and set about fundraising to replace the damaged equipment and turf the grounds as quickly as possible.
Sharon Cowey, Headteacher at St Luke’s Primary School, said: “Children learn more in their first year at school than any other single year. The early years’ curriculum includes opportunities to develop learning indoors and outdoors.
“The outdoor learning environment particularly supports the areas of communication and language, physical development, and personal, social and emotional development. The children were devastated when the area was damaged!
“Without donations like this, we would not have been able to create such a vibrant and useful outdoor learning area. A big thank you from all the staff and children at St Luke’s to Barratt and David Wilson Homes, and all that donated towards the repairs.”
Gavin Powell, Sales Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North West, said: “We are delighted to have been able to assist in St Luke’s Primary School’s damaged outdoor learning area. It’s vital for schoolchildren to be able to learn and play outside as they develop.”
