Community Impact, North West Community Fund
April 29, 2021The North West Community Fund Scheme has donated £1,500 towards the sponsorship of the junior teams at Fishwick Rangers FC, based in Preston, allowing them to continue with their much-loved game.
Fishwick Rangers, set up in 1993, provides a range of services and activities that reflect community needs and aspirations, specifically to engage with young people at risk of social exclusion.
Fayyaz Ahmed MBE, Secretary Treasurer at Fishwick Rangers, said: “The donation will go towards the sponsorship of two junior football teams to ensure that this disadvantaged group get an opportunity to continue to play structured football.
“COVID-19 has really set the team back and they have struggled for sponsorship in order to help them to continue to partake in the local grassroots junior football league.”
The football club, who play their games at Moor Park, which is an essential part of the scheme has proved very popular, over 1,500 young people have engaged in the game and many teams have been successful in gaining promotion and winning their respective leagues.
The primary beneficiaries of the project have a particular emphasis on children and young people, families living in poverty and unemployed people.
Fayyaz continued: “I think that the North West Community Fund scheme is a great initiative that has helped many deprived groups like ours, in helping them to fulfil and unlock their potential as well providing much needed assistance within local communities.
“I believe that supporting local charities and causes will open many doors; it is a great opportunity to form relationships with new people from all backgrounds. This also provides a platform for people to join a network of like-minded businesses that help regularly for a common cause.”
Rob Holbrook, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “As one of the UK’s leading developers, it is really important that we support charities and local organisations in the areas in which we build.
“Fishwick Rangers is a great example of an organisation going the extra mile to benefit the local community and we are delighted to be able to support their fantastic work.”
Fayyaz said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to the David Wilson Homes North West’s North West Community Fund Fund as it has contributed towards a great community project – one that all the young children are excited about and are very thankful for.”
