Sefton Parish Church is dedicated to St Helen and has been a place of worship for 850 years. It is one of the oldest Christian sites in Merseyside and is the only Grade I listed building in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton.
Angela Rushton, Church Warden at Sefton Church, said: “The last time any major work was carried out on the bell tower was at the end of World War II, the bells are safe but in need of a major overhaul.
“The restoration will allow the bells to be rung for weddings and other special events and the reinstatement of a bell ringing group will also bring the community together.”
Philippa Stewart, Head of Sales at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “As a leading developer, it is important that we support organisations and charities in our surrounding areas in order to leave a positive impact in the communities in which we operate.
“Sefton Parish Church is a fantastic place that brings the whole community together through events and occasions and we wish them all the best with their restoration project. In these difficult times, we are encouraging everyone to continue to support local causes like this.”
Angela continued: “It is most certainly important for people to support local causes, without support from companies like David Wilson Homes and local visitors to Sefton Church on open days, heritage weekends and special events, we would be unable to stay open for people to view our magnificent building and the bell tower would eventually have to be closed.
“On behalf of the Rector and congregation of Sefton Parish Church, I would like to say a huge thank you to David Wilson Homes, the donation to our appeal is gratefully received and it means a great deal to us.”
