February 24, 2014David Wilson Homes North West has appointed a new Trainee Assistant Site Manager to manage the growing demand for quality new homes across the region.
Working at Montgomery Green in Warrington, Will Allman, 27, will be one of the first employees to go through a bespoke foundation degree in residential development and construction – designed by David Wilson Homes’ parent company, Barratt Group with Sheffield Hallam University.
Graham Swann, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “This degree is a first for us and for the industry. David Wilson Homes’ site managers are a vital
part of our workforce in underpinning the quality and sustainability of the homes we build. They face new challenges in terms of the increasingly technical build processes, so we’re investing in our people today for future growth. Will is already proving to be a great asset to the division.”
Will said: “This role has given me the chance to be involved in many different aspects of the company and I’m really enjoying getting stuck in to the construction side of things. It’s a great feeling to be involved in the building processes of such a big company, and I’m hoping to work my way up through the ranks, as a result of the foundation degree.”
The foundation degree in residential development and construction is a three-year part-time course designed specifically for Barratt Group employees. Students will attend Sheffield Hallam University in four, one-week blocks (Mon-Fri).
The foundation degree will be a mixture of classroom, laboratory and site-based learning. The course will be completed by December 2016 and students will then move onto an 18 month top-up course to obtain a BSc qualification in Residential Development and Construction. Students who go on to complete the top-up course will graduate in November 2018.
