Community Impact
November 23, 2010We have recently launched a new apprenticeship scheme in partnership with Staffordshire-based training provider, PM Training, to give NVQ learners in Newcastle-Under-Lyme the chance to gain work experience in the construction industry.
The initiative, offers local NVQ learners a two year placement in a selection of construction trades such as bricklaying and joinery. The scheme is specifically designed to provide participants with first-hand experience in a real-life working environment and offer them the chance to put their skills into practice.
Graham Swann, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes North West, comments: “We are delighted to be able to provide young people from the area with first-hand knowledge of working in the construction sector. Work experience is a valuable part of any career, and it is very important to the future of our industry that we invest in providing young people with the skills to help the local building industry grow over the coming years.
“We are currently working on a new development in Newcastle-Under-Lyme, Heritage Park, so it is fantastic to be able to offer young people the chance to help build their own local community.”
Dan Canavan, General Manager at PM Training, comments: “We are pleased to be working in partnership with David Wilson Homes North West to help local learners gain the relevant skills they require to become fully qualified in their chosen trade. We hope the scheme will help to strengthen employment opportunities for young people within the construction industry and support them in their future career.”
Graham Swann concludes: “This apprenticeship scheme is a great opportunity for young people in the local area; we look forward to seeing the first apprentice begin work.”
