Community Impact
May 3, 2024We donated £1,500 to Brighter Living Partnership to support the local communities in and around Southport.
Operating as a health and wellbeing charity in Southport, Brighter Living Partnership supports members of the communities in and around Southport and Formby. Set up in 2000, the charity runs a vast range of activities and services to support social groups, support groups, community development, health behaviour change, and social prescribing.
Our support went towards the charity’s men’s programme. Statistically, men don’t engage as well in communal-based groups, and so are one of the primary target demographics for Brighter Living Partnership in terms of improving wellbeing and reducing health inequalities.
Matty Smith, Manager at Brighter Living Partnership, said: “Our organisation is adaptive and responsive to both the community and ongoing events. For example, during the pandemic, we established shopping and befriending services due to the demand from local people and, more recently, we have supported the development of Ukraine Welcome Centres for individuals displaced as a result of the war.
“To help men throughout Merseyside, we have established a programme of activities including a weekly men’s group and a men’s shed project that has a more practical element to the work.”
During the financial year of 2022-2023, Brighter Living Partnership supported approximately 3,000 people in Merseyside in a range of ways, and through different branches of its service.
Matty continued: “The work we do is very important. We work with people to improve their lifestyle, physical health, mental health and influence the wider determinants of health which are particularly important during the cost-of-living crisis we are currently working through.
“For people accessing our services, they are mainly doing this for social reasons, but often we are improving their health without them even realising.”
Gavin Powell, Sales Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North West, said: “We are so pleased to be able to support Brighter Living Partnership and the important work it is doing.
“As we are currently building new homes in both Southport and Formby, it’s important to us as a leading housebuilder to recognise and support local charities and organisations which help the communities near our developments.”
