A development of new apartments in Warrington has seen its balconies bloom thanks to a window box garden project, run in collaboration with developers David Wilson Homes (DWH) North West and local charity, The Walton Lea Partnership.
DWH North West commissioned the Warrington-based charity to create some striking planters using upcycled materials for its apartments at Walton Locks. A team of beneficiaries from The Walton Lea Project, which provides supported employment for adults with learning disabilities and mental health issues, worked hard to create custom pieces for the site from materials including former dining chairs and palettes. All of the plants were also hand-gown by beneficiaries at the charity.
Julie Groom of The Walton Lea Project, said: “We’re delighted to work with David Wilson Homes and our team has worked very hard to create these pieces for the balconies at Walton Locks. The team took the time to choose plants which suit the lifestyles of the apartments’ future owners; that’s young professionals, which is why we chose hardy herbs which are easy to care for and work well in summer salads – or even better, summer drinks such as Pimms and mojitos.
“The Walton Lea Project and those it supports have a huge amount of experience when it comes to upcycling and creating everything from garden furniture and accessories to items for inside the home.”
DWH North West Sales Director, Steve Jackson, said: “It was great to partner once again with this fantastic local scheme, which has generated some unique pieces that will make the homes we have to offer look even more appealing. The Walton Lea team has done a fantastic job of recycling goods and creating a really lovely moving in present for the apartments’ future owners.”
Walton Locks is a development of two bedroom apartments, situated on Chester Road in Warrington. The site’s show home is open for viewings 12.30 – 5.30pm on Mondays and 10am – 5.30pm from Tuesday to Sunday.
